Note: bed by Aileen; it differs from the 1850 Land Petition, "1 Nov 1830". "1850, Apr: p. 183: John McCrimmon, second son of Farquhar McCrimmon of West Hawkesbury, who emigrated to this country from Scotland ... in the Eliza in 1815, of township of West Hawkesbury, co. Prescott, Canada" petitions for land [with signature] and gives age as 19 on Nov 1, 1849. He was approved for scrip equal to 100 acres, 3 July 1850. (Public Archives of Canada Upper Canada Land Petitions; RGI L 3, Vol, 319, Mc5/183-184-185. reel C- 2185) He may be the John McCrimmon who married Nancy McInnes, W. Hawksbury, 16 Oct. 1851. There is a gravestone: "In memory of John McCrimmon, died April 15, 1877 aged 46 years, native of Glenelg, Scotland." [Gravestones of Glengarry, Vol.3 p62 by Alex W. Fraser] Evidently there was a different John McCrimmon in Glengarry at this time, as John, son of Farquhar, was born in Ontario, and was not a native of Glenelg.
