Several of the children who died young were named "Wheaton" in the death record, but "James" and noted as "illegitimate" in the Parish burial record. The children who lived to adulthood used both surnames: James and Wheaton. The marriage certificate of Jane James Wheaton to George Green states her father was Phillips Wheaton and Jane's application for a widow's pension states her father was Phillip Wheaton.
