a. Continued:   The last definite record we have of Susannah is a deed in 1810. It is not known for certain when she died. Family tradition says that she and her husband died in Manlius, New York, but their bodies were taken back to Connecticut for burial.
  Susannah's youngest brother, Zephaniah Gates, also lived in Manlius, Onondaga Co., NY, and sold property to E. Phillips by two deeds in 1810. He was enumerated in present-day Sullivan, Madison (then Chenango) Co., NY in 1800, which was immediately east of Manlius, Onondaga Co. Zephaniah Gates appears in a number of deeds in Onondaga Co. and Madison Co., NY.
  Deed records also show Joseph Gates and Joshua Gates also owned land in Manlius in the early 1800s--they might be the brothers of Susannah (Gates) Phillips and Zephaniah Gates.

 A man named Nehemiah Gates (1768-1823) and his wife Phoebe (1765-1850) also appear in deed records of Manlius, Onondaga Co., NY. A death notice for Nehemiah Gates, age 55, was printed in the Onondaga Register, Aug. 20, 1823, p. 3, col. 2. An obituary for Mrs. Phoebe Gates, age 85, was printed in the Syracuse Standard, Mar. 21, 1850, p. 3, col. 1. Their daughter, Anna Gates, married Dearborn B. Bickford in Nov. 1815 (see: Onondaga Register, Nov. 29, 1815, p. 3, col. 4). Dearborn Bickford was born 29 Mar 1792 in Gilmanton, New Hampshire; he was the son of Paul and Mary Bickford, and the family moved to Corinth, Vermont about 1796
  A man named Solomon Gates died in Onondaga Co., NY in 1810, and his estate was administered by Salomon Babcock; the estate did not contain enough to cover debts; properties were ordered to be sold 31 Oct. 1810. (Book A, Real Estate, p.73; Onondaga Co.)
  There were other people named Gates living in Manlius, NY (see compiled census and deed records in notes under Elijah Phillips (b. abt. 1755), including an Elezur Gates who died in 1831 and left a will (Will Book E, p. 108); Elezur Gates (1770-1830) was from East Haddam, Middlesex Co., CT, and appears to be no close relation.
