Continued: Phineas (or Phinheas) Walker, son of Edward and Mary (Fay) Walker, was born 18 March 1753 at Brookfield, Worcester Co., MA (Vital Records of Brookfield, Mass., p. 224, FHL 547195). *** Some researchers claim that Phinheas Walker, the son of Edward Walker and Mary Fay, died at the age of eight on 22 Sept. 1761. The Vital Records of Brookfield show a Phineas Walker did dies on 22 Sept. 1761, but do not note his age or specify a relationship to anyone. There were at least three persons named Phineas Walker in the Brookfield area at that time, including a Phineas Walker who married Ruth Chadwick of Malden, 3 July 1736 at Malden--intention not recorded. (Vital Records of Brookfield, Mass., p. 429. FHL 547195) The fact that the Phineas Walker of Brookfield who died in 1761 left a probate record indicates that he was an adult, and hence was not the son of Edward and Mary (Fay) Walker -- see: Probate Record (Worcester Co., Massachusetts, Docket Index FHL 860641) 1761: Phinehas Walker, Brookfield (admin. Docket #61422) Administrator: Benjamin Walker Bond: Silas Walker & Silvanus Walker bond: vol. 179, p. 387 letter: vol. 107, p. 547 appraisal & inv.: vol. 7, p. 346 admin. appt.: vol. 206, p. 289 bond: vol. 179, p. 260 letter & stat.: vol. 110, p. 1 appraisal & inv.: vol. 8, p. 204 *** Another Phineas Walker, son of Abraham & Gemima, was b. 25 Sept. 1766. (Vital Records of Brookfield, Mass., p. 224. FHL 547195) *** Y-DNA from a direct-male-line descendant of Phineas Walker descendant perfectly matched a DNA sample from a descendant of Edward Walker (d.1723 of Brookfield, Mass.) who married Elizabeth Dean, so there is conclusive evidence that Phineas Walker belongs to this family. This supports the fact that Phineas was the son of Edward and Mary (Fay) Walker. The list of children I have compiled for Phineas Walker may not be perfect. I have found no estate record nor Bible registry. No children for this couple are found in the Vital Records of Warren, Worcester Co., Mass. DAR National No. 67386, sibmitted by Winona Moore Sherwood in 1938, shows the following: Phineas Walker, b. 18 march 1753, d. 9 September 1834 wife: Tryphena (Phena) Hines, b. 17 January 1760 Warren, Mass, d. 9 January 1849 Schoocraft, Michigan, burried there in the Taylor Lot. Married 1775 Children: Edward, b. 1777, died aged two years Grace, b. 1779 Polly, b. 1781 Phineas, Jr., b. 1783 Tryphena, b. 1785 Foster, b. 1787 Tamar, b. 4 January 1790, m (1) Ezra G. Phillips, (2) 1842 Rev. Wm. Taylor of Schoolcraft, mich. During the American War for Independence, Phineas Walker enlisted and served with Brookfield companies on various expeditions and, on 30 June 1778, was placed on the rolls of Brookfield men from the third precinct who served at least one month as soldiers. (It is claimed but is still unclear whether he is certainly the same man who removed to New York state.) Phineas Walker married Tryphena "Phena" Hind (sometimes Hines) 12 Aug. 1775 in Western (now Warren), Worcester Co., Massachusetts. They moved west by way of Vermont, and to Canajoharie, Montgomery Co., New York, where he appears on the Federal Census in 1790. The Walker family removed to Oneida County by 1800, and to Onondaga County by 1810. Phineas then moved to Niagara Co., New York, where he died 7 Sept. 1834. His widow, Tryphena, accompanied the family of her daughter, Tamar, to Michigan in 1835 or 1836 and died in 1849 in Schoolcraft Twp., Kalamazoo Co., Michigan. One of the sons of Phineas and Tryphena Walker had a daughter named Mary who was born 15 July 1824 and died 22 October 1839. Mary's parents apparently died young, and Mary Walker was notes as "our neice and adopted daughter" by Tamar (Walker) Phillips (this from the Phillips Family Bible in possession of Nick Sheedy).
