Continued: Robin Proctor Sheedy was born in San Jose, Santa Clara Co., CA 25 Aug. 1942, the first child of Betty Jane [Steinhoff] and Carl Phillips Sheedy. Robin's first two years were spent with his mother at the home of his maternal grandmother, Eva [McCrimmon] Steinhoff on Olive Street, Newark, Alameda Co., CA. His father was at war in North Africa and Italy and returned in 1944, being discharged in 1945. Robin lived with his mother at Grass Valley for a time while Carl recovered at the Army hospital in Auburn. The family moved to Oakland in 1945 and removed to Placerville, El Dorado Co., CA in late 1945. Robin attended school at Placerville, kindergarten through 12th grade and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1960. He attended college for three years at the University of Nevada at Reno, then removed to Oregon with his family, returning to college for spring semester 1963; he studied Mining Engineering. Robin married Eileen Music Harrington, also of Placerville, 28 Aug. 1963 at Minden, Nevada; they eloped. The couple settled in Prairie City, Grant Co., OR, managing the Prairie City Auto Court, owned by Robin's parents. Their first child, Robert Bill Sheedy was born in 1964 in John Day, Grant Co. They narrowly escaped damage in the John Day river flood of 1964 as half the backyard was washed away; they escaped to high ground on the Sheedy Ranch on Marysville Road. Robin worked for a time for Ernest Organ (great uncle; husband of Freida [Phillips], maternal aunt of Carl Phillips Sheedy) and operated heavy equipment for logging contractors. Robin then obtained his real estate salesman license and worked for his father out of the John Day office, later obtaining his broker license, working in real estate in Oregon and later California. The small family lived for a time in the old brick hotel at the Mount Vernon Hot Springs after Robin's parents purchased the property in 1966, the only occupants of 17 bedrooms. They then removed to the upper ranch house on the old "Gardener" Ranch near Canyon City. Sally Ann Sheedy was born in John Day in 1966. John Proctor Sheedy was born in 1971. Robin participated in the "Slate Mountain" uranium mining prospect near Placerville, Calif. in the late 1960s and early 1970s; the family spent most of a year on the property in 1968. Robin worked in real estate in the late 1960s and through the 1970s; he also worked for several years at the Grant County Courthouse as a property appraiser for the Assessor's Office. Robin and Eileen were divorced in 1979; she and the children remained in Canyon City area for a couple years before moving with Sally and John to Dayton, Wash. Robin remained in John Day and was in ill health; his eyesight was poor and his ability to drive was affected. Robert stayed with his father and left for college in Bend during his senior year of High School. Robin moved to San Francisco in the early 1980s and lived and worked at Ardenwood, a Christian Science Sanitarium, for two years. Robin removed to Tigard, OR and worked for a time in real estate in the Portland and Beaverton area. While there, he met Janet Walker at the Tigard Christian Science Church; she also had lived in Placerville, CA and attended High School with Robin. They were married in 1984 in Beaverton, OR. The couple lived in Tigard for a while, later removing to Sunnyvale, CA where Robin worked in a real estate office. They moved to Lincoln City on the Oregon coast for several months; at that time Robin received surgical treatment for a brain tumor. Robin and Janet moved to Pollock Pines near Placerville for a short time, later removing to Diamond Springs where Robin was employed in real estate. The couple traveled to Laughlin, Nevada in the winter of 1988 where Robin died in December after a heart attack. Robin's body was cremated and the ashes spread on the "Gardener" Ranch above the main spring that served the old ranch house. Robin was mild mannered and soft-spoken. He loved photography and pursued it professionally at times. He enjoyed the out-of-doors and made many hikes, horse rides, and fishing trips in the Sierras when he was young, once hiking across Desolation Valley for a week trek with his brother David; they also ascended Mount Lassen, Pyramid Peak, and other summits in the Sierra range. He was devoted to his children and church. Robin always raised a fine vegetable garden and loved horses.
