Note: History of Winona County, Minnesota (1884), p. 655: "John B. Knapp, a pioneer of 1855, was born in Canada, March 23, 1833, son of Amos and Elizabeth (Blezzard) Knapp, the former a native of New York state and the latter of England. When John B. was about three years of age, he was brought to Michigan, where he was reared. In 1855 he came to Hart Township, Winona County and preempted land. He was followed later by his father. After a while, the subject of this sketch purchased a quarter section of land across the road from his original claim in Hart township. In 1869 he gave up farming, and after renting his place for twenty years he sold it. In 1869 he moved to Winona and purchased a residence on Winona street and in 1872 built the pleasant residence now occupied by William Rademacher. Mr. Knapp now lives at 267 East Wabasha. While in Warren Twp. he was assessor one year, and has also served in other positions of public trust and private honor. He is a member of the Old Settlers' Association and is serving on the executive board of that association. He was also postmaster at Wyattsville for some years. The subject of this sketch was married December ?8, 1856, to Elizabeth Wyatt born March 6, 1837, the daughter of Hiram and Hannah Wyatt Mr. and Mrs. Knapp have one daughter, Ruby Belle, who for several years was stenographer at the high school of Winona.
