Note: n an orchestra for several years. She married Barney Beadel 4 February 1869 in Marshalltown, Iowa. The Beadel family moved to Northport, Stevens Co., Washington in 1901 and established a homestead. They later moved to Sumner, Washington. I have never been able to find this family in census records. I suspect it was spelled differently by the enumerator. *** From 1934 letters from Flora (Phillips) Beadell to Edith (Arne) Phillips: "... I was only fourteen when mother [Almira (Knapp) Phillips] died, and Edgar (?) was only three or four months old when father died.* Father [Edgar E. Phillips] was born in New York State, and I think his mother (my grandmother) [Tamar (Walker) Phillips] was born there, too, but do not know. I do not know the nationality of Grandfather [Ezra G.] Phillips, but have often heard Grandma talk of a large Hotel they owned and operated in Utica, New York. Grandfather [Ezra G. Phillips] died while father [Edgar E. Phillips] was a young man, and grandma [Tamar (Walker) Phillips] married a Baptist minister [William taylor]. "My mother's people is only partly known to me. Grandmother Knapp [mother of Almira (Knapp) Phillips] was an English Lady in her youth. She was Lady Elizabeth Buzzard. Her brother (mother's uncle) was Lord John Buzzard, and Mother was born in Canada. Her [Almira (Knapp) Phillips'] mother [Elizabeth (Buzzard) Knapp] died when she was fourteen. Grandfather [Amos] Knapp moved to Michigan and used to visit Schoolcraft, Mich. where we lived on a farm. He finally sold out and went to Winona, Minn., with Uncle john [Knapp], Mother's brother who was named after Lord John [Buzzard]. They are all dead and gone now. *It is unclear who this Edgar was. If "father" meant Flora's father, then there must have been an infant Edgar Phillips born in 1870 (never found mention of that). Edgar (b. 1826) was about 10 when his father died. And Edgar's son, Foster (b. 1867) was about three years old when his father, Edgar, died. *** Letter sent 11 Oct. 1991 (shared by Lorene Phillips & Bev Christiensen, Tillamook, Oregon): "This is the information I have of my grandmother, Flora Phillips Beadell, who was a true lady in all respects. My mother was Edith and she named me after her grandmother, Almaria Knapp Phillips. I hope this information will be of assistance in your genealogy search. "Affectionately, Almaria (Farrar) Jones" "Flora Ellen Phillips born May 27, 1849 in Schoolcraft, Michigan, died Aug. 15, 1939 in Sumner, Washington. Daughter of Edgar Phillips and Almaria Knapp Phillips. Married Benjamin Barney Beadell Feb. 4, 1869 in Marshalltown, Iowa. "Benjamin and Flora moved to Northport, Washington in 1901 where they established a homestead. "Flora was a school teacher in Alpena, South Dakota. She played the violin in the orchestra for several years." (Childern listed, all names and bithdates transcribed into this file.--NMS)
Note: Flora taught school in Alpena, South Dakota, and also played the violin i
