Note: Obituary: Fred E. Phillips, 83, of Northport, passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 2016. He spent the last weeks of his life being cared for by his wife, children and his specialgranddaughter, Windy Town at their home. Kallie, his cat, was his constant companion, lying next to him whether in his chair or his bed. The comfort that Fred derived from their loving care made his last days peaceful. He was born to the late Fulton "Mike" and Aileen "Chic" Phillips on April 28, 1932 in Troy, Idaho. Fred received his elementary education at a one-room schoolhouse on Sheep Creek. He went on to Northport High School, graduated in 1952, and then joined the United States Air Force. He was discharged in 1956, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. Upon returning to Northport, he joined his father, uncle and brother as a partner in Phillips Ranch. He married Judith Faye Ritter on April 19, 1958 in Northport. They made their home in Northport for the entire 57 years of their marriage. In 1958, Fred left Phillips Ranch and for short time worked for Williams and Guglielmino Logging. He then accepted employment with Northport Limestone, working forthem for 32 years until his retirement in April 1997. He was an active member of the Northport Lions Club and the Northport Volunteer Fire Department until his health no longer allowed those activities. Fred also participated in a friendly rivalry during the Christmas season when the Lions Club judged house decorations. His home on Main Street always received a great deal of attention and was enjoyed by the town and those passing through. Every year, a garden was planted and cared for and the lawn was lush and beautiful. As his illness advanced, you would often find him sitting in his chair on the front porch, or when the days became colder, looking out of the window, reviewing the passing traffic and people, giving them a friendly smile and wave. Fred was a soft-hearted, caring and generous man who lived a full and eventful life. Fred is survived by his wife, Judy at their home; his brother, Glenn Phillips and wife Rosemarie; his children, Vicki Hicks and husband, Thom; Tammy Lenderman and husband, Scott; Lisa Husser and husband, Mike; Troy Phillips and wife, Margaret; granddaughters, Windy Town, Jessica Huitt, Ashley Cazenavette, Kayla Kingsbury, Kristina Pinc, Deserae Phillips, and Siera Phillips; grandsons, Tommy Hicks, Darren and Michael Lenderman, Steven Pinc, Trevor Phillips; sixg reat-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews .
