Note: f Salem Twp., sometime between 1803 and 1809. Salem Twp. (Township 15 of Range 3) was organized 10 May 1803 and the first settlers arrive that year.
From "History of Columbiana County and Representative Citizens", p. 326, "Salem Township":
"Section 34 was settled by M. Stewart, John Brinker, Daniel Burger and Henry Wormer."
From the biography of Henry J. Powell, Daniel Burger's grandson, ibid. p. 667:
"The Burgers are of old Pennsylvania Dutch extraction, a very old and prominent family of that state."*
*this claim may be an embellishment, or perhaps some other "facts" to substantiate this may be uncovered as Daniel's father, Nicholas Burger, immigrated from Switzerland sometime in the 1760s.
Some secondary accounts indicate Daniel was born abt. 1766. I had shown Daniel's birth date as 3 May 1775, but the source was secondary.
St. Jacob's records indicate that Daniel Burger died 11 January 1830, age 55y, 7m, 8d. While the ages given in these records are not quite right sometimes, this would calculate a birth date of 3 June 1774.
Daniel Burger's estate was probated in 1830 in Columbiana Co. (c. 1254); no will is on record.
He and wife, Catherine, are found in published St. Jacob's church records, Salem Twp. as "Borger". (from Miscellaneous Records of The First Presbyterian Church of Lisbon, Center Twp., and St. Jacob's Church, Salem Twp., OH; transcribed --books one and two-- by Andrew Sinon in 1873; and copied by Jean van Fossan for the NSDAR in 1962. --book one is in German.)
NOTE: Daniel Burger of Columbiana County, Ohio is recognized by the Ohio Genealogical Society and included on the "First Families of Ohio Roster" (research done by Nick Sheedy: OGS, 713 S. Main St., Mansfield, OH 44907):
