Funeral for Roy H. Sheedy, retired chief of the Veterans Service Division in the U.S. Veterans Administration regional office in Portland, will be at noon Friday in the Adams Memorial Chapel of River View Cemetery. Mr. Sheedy died Tuesday in his Southwest Portland home. He was 77.
Born in Astoria, Mr. Sheedy moved to Portland with his family when he was a year old. After earning a journalism degree from the University of Oregon in 1933, he worked four years as a reporter for the Grants Pass Courier. He then became a civilian employee of the U.S. War Department’s ordnance depot at Pueblo, Colo. In 1943 he was commissioned a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as a gunnery officer on troop transports in the Pacific Ocean.
After the war he joined the U.S. Veterans Administration regional office in Portland. He retired in 1970. He had been a Southwest Portland resident for 36 years.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Sheedy, and a daughter, Sally Kennedy, both of Portland.
