a. Note:   t. Erie, IL stands the old brick house (1964) built by George Best in 1853. It not only was built by him but he built the kiln and made the brick. It is still being lived in and appears to be in good condition."
  OBITUARY from the "Wayne Co. Press" (3 February 1870):
 "Sudden death on Sunday evening last, Mr. George Best, of the vicinity of Mt. Erie, after returning from church was seized with a violent fit of coughing, during which he ruptured a blood vessel and died almost instantly. Mr. Best was about 50 years of age--during the war was Lieutenant in the 63rd Regiment, Ill. Vol., was a well known and highly respected citizen."
