a. Continued:   As a young man he would hitchhike from Washington state or Oregon to southern California. He attended the University of Oregon and then the University of Washington. He taught school in at Coos River in Oregon.
 Forrest met Elsie while she was working in a music store in Tacoma. He proposed to her on their first date. It was some time before she accepted and they were married only a couple days before he was transferred by the Army to Kansas.
 Forest served in WWII as a Lieutenant. He entered France and fought across Germany to Austria. He spoke fluent German and was involved mainly with reconnaissance on the front and behind enemy lines.
 After WWII, Forrest taught school at Tacoma, Wash. and then in Carmichael, Calif., teaching German, English and Drivers' Education. During the early 1960s, they hosted a foreign exchange student, Heidi, and became lifelong friends. She married Carlheinz Knoute, an international business attorney, and they would invite Forrest and Elsie to visit and travel together.
 Forrest and Elsie retired to Northport, Washington about 1972 where they purchased land from his Uncle, Mike Phillips, on the Phillips ranch Forrest's grandfather Fred Phillips homesteaded, and built a house there.

 Obituary, Statesman-Examiner, Colville, WA, March 5, 2003:
 Forrest H. Sheedy Forrest Herman Sheedy passed away Feb. 26 at home in Colville. He was born Dec. 3, 1911, in Northport, the second son of Robin C. and Florence (Phillips) Sheedy.
 Mr. Sheedy always thought of Northport as home, although his father worked in construction and the family moved a great deal around the country while he was in school. Forrest particularly enjoyed living two years in Washington, D. C. when he was a teenager, while his father was supervising the construction of the Arlington Memorial Bridge; and he had fond recollections of the family in Pasadena.
 He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1933 with a BA in English, and was fluent in German. He taught school near Coos Bay, Oregon until WWII when he served as an officer in Europe, and lead an anti-tank platoon, defending the forward command post of his division under Gen. Dean.
 He married Elsie Erickson in 1944 in Tacoma, Wash. After his discharge from the Army, Mr. Sheedy continued teaching in Pierce County from 1948 until 1956. He relocated to Carmichael, Calif., near Sacramento, and taught German, English and Driver's Education until 1976.
 He and Elsie retired to Northport and built a house on part of his late grandfather Phillips' ranch. They removed to Colville in 1999.
 Mr. Sheedy was an avid golfer and a member of Dominion Meadows Golf Club. He enjoyed hiking, politics, singing and music. He was a life-long member of the Christian Science Church.
 Mr. Sheedy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elsie Sheedy of Colville; one uncle, Fulton "Mike" Phillips of Northport; sister-in-law, Betty Sheedy of John Day, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
 He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Robert, Carl and Gale Sheedy.

 Danekas Funeral Chapel was in charge of cremation and his ashes were spread on the Phillips Ranch. At his request, there will be no services.
