Note: Warne Family in America, by George Warne Labaw (1911), p. 366: William Holmes, b. Nov 1, 1793; d. Jan. 8, 1887, in his 94th year He married Eliza Canby. William was a farmer. He and his brother, Elijah, were the only ones of the line who remained in Virginia. Five Children: 1) Elizabeth Holmes, d. young 2) Juliett Holmes, d. young 3) Joseph William Holmes, m. Rebecca Fawcett. Residence, Omaha, Neb. Children: Orville Canby Holmes; William Fawcett Holmes; Ann Eliza Holmes m. Justin B. Porter (who have children, Fawcett William Porter and Gertrude Abby Porter); Jesse S. Holmes d. in infancy; Abby Virginia Holmes. 4) Samuel Canby Holmes, d. aged betw. 30 and 40; he m. Sallie B. Wilson of Philadelphia, Pa.; one child: Edward Holmes. 5) Sarah Canby Holmes, m. Summerfield Bolyn; Children: Dr. William H. Bolyn, a veterinary surgeon in Loudoun Co., Va.; Robert Bolyn, M.D., of Texas; Mary Eliza Bolyn, who died at four years of age. Hindshaw's Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy (Vol. 6, pp. 508, 509, 629 & 657) shows: William Holmes was received at Fairfax from Goose Creek MM in 1831; Granted certificate from Fairfax to Goose Creek MM, along with children Joseph William and Sarah, and Elizabeth Holmes, the mother of William. William and wife disowned at Hopewell in 1839 for joining the Separtists (Hicksites). "Committee appointed 14 July 1887 to prepare a suitable Memorial for our deceased Friend William Holmes, a prominent Elder of Goose Creek Meeting."
