Notes
a. Note:   "There is an intriguing story of the Coon migration from Maryland to Ohio which must have taken place about 1827-1828. Michael's daughter Elizabeth Coon was then almost ten years old; many years and thousands of miles later when she was an elderly woman in California, she still recounted with pride the fact that on that first westward journey she was allowed to drive a horse and cart all by herself!" Source: McTeer.
It is said that she smoked a corn cob pipe.
It is stated somewhere that she was born in Harper's Ferry; but Harper's Ferry is in West Virginia (Virginia then).
Chico Weekly Chronicle-Record, Saturday, January 7, 1893, pg 1 col 8: Death of Mrs. William Coon. Yesterday at the family residence near Durham, Mrs. Elizabeth Coon, wife of Wm Coon, aged 73 years.
