Notes
a. Note:   The Charlotte Walters born 24/1/1819 in Rotherfield is NOT the Charlotte who wed Benjamin Button. That Charlotte was still at home with parents Wm and Eliz (farmers) in 1941 Census, while our Charlotte had wed Benjamin in 1839 and was with him in Brightelmstone in 1841 Census. On this Census, the Column "Where Born, Whether Born in Same County" has a distinct N for No in it, in Charlotte's case, so I have to assume she was born somewhere outside Sussex.
I sourced Marriage Cert for Charlotte and Benjamin; her father was John Walters, a gardener who lived in Barracks at Preston at time of wedding. I have been unable to categorically discover Charlottes mother and her birth date. I THINK the mother was Mary born 1791 somewhere. She appears in 1841 Census with John and other children Henry 15, John 14, George 12, Eliza 10 BUT listed as WALTER. Also in 1871 Census, the father John is with his son in law Samuel Pettit, daughter Mary Ann born abt 1818 (wed abt 1845) and grandaughter MaryPettit born 1845. But again with WALTER. If it is the same person, I can only assume that both Mary Ann and Charlotte left to marry before the 1841 Census (as confirmed by Charlottes wedding 1839). Frustratingly, both the father John and his other daughter Mary Ann are listed in the 1871 Census as being born in Heathfield, Sussex. If this is definitely Charlotte's father, why is Charlotte listed as being born outside Sussex in 1841 Census? Botheration!
  It remains a mystery.
The inrorrect Charlotte appears in ALL online Trees as being Benjamin's wife.
