Notes
a. Note: Biographical Information by Dennis Nicklaus: !Lyman did a lot of work in organizing, compiling and computerizing a
large set of family records. In September of 1993,
Lyman wrote the following brief account of his life and his start
 in genealogy:

I grew up on a farm in Keokuk County, Iowa. I was born on the old Bowman place NW
of Webster. It was 1.5 miles to the Porter school, which we walked every day
through the mud and snow. When I was almost nine years old we moved to the farm
west of Sigourney. West Laffer school was only .5 miles, this was a real treat
for us kids not to have to walk so far to school. I went to High School at
Delta which was 2.5 miles. I rode a horse the first year, walked the second and
Merle reentered school in my junior year so he drove us to school in his car. I
graduated high school in 1947. I worked odd jobs for awhile and farmed one year
and started doing power line work in 1949. In the spring of 1951, I had a
stroke of good luck; I met a wonderful girl and fell in LOVE. We were married the
following February. I got drafted for the Korean war August 15, 1952 and served
in Korea all of 1953. I was discharged at Camp Carson, Colo., May 14, 1954. We
moved to Knoxville, Iowa that fall where I had found employment as a lineman. We
moved to California, August 1, 1966. All and all I have had a happy and fulfilling
life, due mainly to my wonderful bride and mother of my children.
I did power line construction work on the west Coast for 25 years, mostly in
California. I also worked in Washington and Oregon and British Columbia.
I fell ill with congestive heart failure in June of 1993, and was forced to
retire. In a short period of time I started to get bored, as I've never really
had a hobby that I stayed with very long. That is the reason I started on the
family tree. I wanted a hobby I could work on as little or as much as I
wanted. So far it has proved to be very interesting and rewarding.

Lyman served in the US Army for two years and was discharged as a
corporal in 1954. He was awarded a Korean Service Medal with two
Bronze Stars and United Nations Service and National Defense medals.
