a. Note:   r officiating. Burial will be at Stanley Cemetery at Amherst. Visitation is from 4 to 8:30 p.m. today at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.
 He was born Sept. 19, 1924, in Amherst to Carl F. and Johanna Josephine (Schukar) Labs. On May 18, 1946, he married Hazel I. Pool in Smith Center, Kan.
 Survivors include his wife; sons, Terry of Elm Creek and Don of Odessa; daughters, Patty Hedges of Kearney and Jennifer Schake of Elm Creek; and sister, Viola Mueller of Lincoln. Other survivors include daughters-in-law, Kathy Labs of Elm Creek and Cathy Labs of Odessa; son-in-law, Tim Hedges of Kearney; grandchildren, Doug Labs and his fiance Stef Piper of Kearney, Stefanie Nuhfer and her husband Jeff of Elm Creek, Dana Espersen and her husband Jarod of Amherst, Shannon Schmidt and her husband Mark of Elm Creek, Darcie Labs of Kearney, Dustin Hedges of Omaha and his friend Kim Gurzick, and Tyler Hedges of Kearney; step-grandchildren, Cory Halliwell and his wife Becky of Elm Creek and Tracy Williams and her husband Patrick of Andover, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Spencer and Brandon Nuhfer of Elm Creek, Bailee Rose Labs of Gibbon, Dominic Espersen of Amherst, TJ Hollingshead of Kearney and Kadyn Schmidt of Elm Creek; and step-great-grandchildren, Devon and Madison Halliwell of Elm Creek, and Paityn and Miley Williams of Andover, Kan.
 He was preceded in death by a brother in infancy, three sisters and a son-in-law. He was raised in the Amherst area and attended Amherst High School, graduating in 1942. After marriage, the couple lived in Amherst and were members of Trinity Lutheran Church. He worked as a heavy equipment operator, farmed and worked 38 years for the Shofstall Alfalfa Mill at Odessa, until he retired. His favorite pastime was spending time with family, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 Memorials are suggested to the family, to be designated later.
Note:   Obit from Kearney Hub, 3 September, 2007 Gerhardt W. Labs, 82, of Amherst died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Amherst, with the Rev. Bert Muelle
