Notes from Scott Schurdell: Due to the hostel environment related to Gertrude's father's alcoholism she went as an infant to live with her Grandmother Ella Homan Gorham. Her Grandmother raised her until she reached adulthood. As an adult she had 3 children. When pregnant with a fourth child she slipped on some ice and ruptured her spleen. At 7 months, the child (Thomas) was stillborn. Gertrude died during this birth.
