WOUNDED IN CHEST ON OCTOBER 3, 1944 AND SENT STATESIDE ON CONVALESCENT LEAVE. MEDICAL DISCHARGE ON JULY 26, 1945. SERVED IN PATTON'S 3RD ARMY, 2ND ARMORED DIVISION, 41ST ARMORED INFANTRY BATTALION, COMPANY C. RECEIVED 2 PURPLE HEARTS. Grandpa Adams liked to fish, hunt and play cards. His favorite place to fish was Wa-Ni Village in Rutledge, Tennessee. He spent many summers there fishing and enjoying the company of friends and family. Grandpa worked in the coal mines for more than 30 years and was therefore well known and respected by those who knew him. Got the nickname "Lightning" running moonshine and never getting caught, also the most likely person to strike first during a fight.
