  Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church for Mrs. Hilda J. Johnson, aged 82, of 25 Pleasant Street, Sparta, who passed away on Wednesday, August 2, at Sunshine Hospital in Grand Rapids after a lingering illness. She was the wife of David J. Johnson, retired Sparta merchant and former Sparta Village President. The former Hilda Stream was born on August 27, 1884, in Muskegon to the late Charles and Johanna Fagerlund Stream and moved with her family to the Kent City area at the age of 12. The Johnsons were married on February 15, 1911, in KentCity and spent the first four years of their marriage on the family farm. In 1915 they moved into Sparta and Dave purchased a farm implement and hardware business. Active In community and church affairs, she was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church and was a past president of its Women's Club. She also served as president of the Sparta Ladies Literary Club and was a life member of the Harmony chapter No. 34, Order of the Eastern Stir of Sparta. Although not blessed with children of their own, the Johnsons raised their two nephews Charles Saur and Edward Soderstrom, giving them all the love and care they would have given their own. Through Chuck's family of two and Ed's family of three, who all reside in Sparta, the Johnsons enjoyed the grandchildren they always hoped to have. Mrs. Johnson is also survived by three brothers, Ed Stream of Kent City, Ernest Stream of Grant, and Harold Stream of South Bend, Indiana; two sisters, Mrs. Mable Johnson of Sparta and Mrs. Edna Deremo of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. The Rev. Donald Johnson officiated at the funeral service. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, Sparta. Arrangements by Hessel Chapel of Sparta.

Johnson, president here for IS years, retired late in 1966 due to his wife's health. Services will be held Saturday at 2 at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church near here, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. The body is at the Hessel Funeral Home.
