Title: History of Perquimans County, As Compiled from Records Found There and Elsewhere, Mrs Watson Winslow, Edwards & Broughton Co, 1931, , "The Colonial Records of North Carolina have excellent copies of the old precinct court proceedings in Perquimans, showing the earliest extant to be that at the house of ___ Harris (Thomas) May, 1693. According to the same source the fact is gained that the oldest records were burned during the rebellion of 1677-79. A few old papers escaped this tragic fate by being lodged with the Secretary of State, the old wills of Perquimans having been fortuante in that respect, have been beautifully abstracted by Mr J. Byran Grimes, Secretary of State, in his book Grimes' North Carolina Wills."
