Note: From: "Aimee A. Harris" <aimee@rtinet.com> Subject: [WALKER-L] Samuel Walker on the 1870 Nebraska Census Date: Tue, 20 Nov 2001 16:39:01 -0800 Surnames: Drown/Drowne, Koehne, Simmons/Symonson/Symons, Walker, Wilterdink, Thayer, Vining, Howland, Pardee, Stinson, Rice Hello everyone, My gggrandmother was Catherine Walker, born in Muskingum County, Ohio in 1821, daughter of James and RACHEL Walker, "natives" of Pennsylvania, married to my gggrandfather, Henry Simmons, born in Licking County, Ohio. I have been trying to trace Catherine's lineage for a few years now. I recently came across a link after perusing "gobs" of census images, that leads me to believe that she is a cousin to Elias Walker, son of Jesse, son of Meshack, and that Meshack's son James' wife is actually RACHEL, and that the Catherine listed as his wife is actually his daughter, my gggrandmother. The reason that I believe this to be true is due to the fact that after doing a search for Elias Walker, in as much as he and his family was listed on the very same 1870 Nebraska census page as my gggrandparents and their family, and knowing that families often lived in the same areas, and moved together (I thought at first he was perhaps a brother), I was flabbergasted to see a note on the page for Elias that he and his wife Susan were buried in Lancaster County, Nebraska, in the Simmons Cemetery. My amazement was due to the fact that the Simmons/Saltillo Cemetery is my family's cemetery, set out from part of my gggrandfather Henry Simmons' estate, and only family members and close friends are buried here. This would just about guarantee that Elias and Susan Walker are related to my gggrandmother, Catherine Walker Simmons. I am very nearly certain that the information about Catherine's parents being "James and Rachel Walker, natives of Pennsylvania, who spent their last years in Ohio" is accurate, because there is a Simmons family genealogy that was written by my gg uncle, L. A. Simmons, brother to my ggrandmother Caroline Simmons Wilterdink, and it would seem fairly certain that he would have first hand knowledge from his family about these names. He worked very hard to document everything published in the book, although, admittedly, as with any endeavor of this type, there are indeed a few errors, though usually minor ones. I have sent an e-mail to the submitter of the webpage, but if any of you Walker "cousins" out there can help me in verifying this information, I would be so very grateful. Also, listed on this same 1870 Nebraska census on another page are a Samuel and Mary Walker, born in Massachusetts, both 43 years of age, with children: Charles - 11, Laura - 10, Mary E. - 8, and William - 6. Can anyone tell me who this Samuel belongs to, and if he is part of this same Meshack Walker family? Thanks so much for your help. Aimee A. (Drown) Harris
