Notes
a. Note:   razy notion that we could find the father of our grandmother, Harriet Hooper Cambray McClure. We quickly discovered that it was not going to be easy and that there was no one alive who knew this man's name. It turned out that the only person living who had any knowledge as to who her father had been was Fred Cambray, my grandmother's much younger cousin.
After viewing our first family history efforts, Fred asked if we wanted to know what he knew. Well.... of course! Fred remembered the adults whispering about this man being a cop, married, and from St Catharines where Mary Jane (Mamie) lived with her parents on Cherry St. I seem to remember that this man was a near neighbor.
Nearly 30 years later, it occurred to me to check the 1891 St Catharines census. 4 households away on Ontario St was Thomas C Dawson, age 50, married with a home full of children, and the sheriff of St Catharines. There are no other policemen in the area. I believe that Thomas C Dawson was the father of my grandmother.
Hopefully DNA testing will prove this!
