 The death of Winfield Scott McClure on April 10 at the age of 94, took from the Sand Lake community one of its oldest citizens, a pioneer of almost 73 years residence. He was the last member of a family of 14 born to John and Ellen McClure of Van Wert County, Ohio. At the age of 22 he was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Walls of Van Wet Co Ohio. To this union were born 10 children, 6 boys and 4 girls. Three boys and two girls preceded their father in death. He moved to Michigan in 1878, traveling by wagon. He bought his farm near Sand Lake 63 years ago. His wife Margaret Ann, died Feb. 5, 1913. On Aug. 17, 1916, he married Jennie Tracy of Payne, Ohio. She died Sept. 4, 1928. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry E. Smith. He is survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters; Winfield S. McClure of Morenci, Michigan, L.D. and William McClure of Grand Rapids; Mrs. H. J. Tompkins & Mrs. H. E. Smith of Sand Lake; 18 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
