Don was married two times, he divorced his first wife during the early 1950's. He was in Ketchikan, Alaska to help build a dam for Ketchikan Pulp Company when he met and married Evelyn Ridley. He had followed the construction trade for some years, working on many of the large dams in the western United States. One year he and Evelyn vacationed, visiting the sites he had worked on; this was forever after known as their "Dam" vacation. He was a very kind and gentle man who absolutely adored his wife Evelyn. He was a good father and husband. His outstanding characteristic was his devotion to his wife. He was a fantastic father-in-law. One thing he was never successful at was hunting. He had such a tender heart that he could never shoot the deer. He did enjoy the hike. Don eventually went to work for the Ketchikan Public Utilities. Through his own diligence he eventually rose from powerhouse operator to the position of Utilities Manager. He retired in 1979 after 25 years with the company. He was well known and greatly respected; he was on of the few men to know how and why electrical generators work. He was also well versed in high voltage distribution. As a result, upon his retirement he was sought out as a consultant. In this capacity his skill and knowledge was used to advise professional engineers in what would or would not work and when necessary how to correct their errors. Don's obituary appeared in the Ketchikan Daily News, 10 Jan 1991. His photograph appears in the article. He was interred at Mountain View Cemetery next to his wife Evelyn. A marriage license application was reviewed at the First Judicial District, Ketchikan, AK dated 15 Jan 1954. He was then in Ketchikan working as a truck foreman. This source identified his first wife, Mary M. Bailey, and his second wife Evelyn M. Ridley of Ketchikan.
