Note: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=109385862 Birth: 1841, Germany Death: 1928 Family links: Spouse: Katie Nederhoff (1842 - 1905) Children: Harry Nederhoff (1881 - 1939)* Burial: Nemaha Cemetery, Nemaha, Sac County, Iowa, USA Created by: Rich Robinson, Record added: Apr 25, 2013, Find A Grave Memorial# 109385862 __________________________________________________________________________________ Don's Note: Based on 1895 Iowa Census: Annie Nederhoff, age 51 (1844) and lived in Eden, Sac, IA. Tark Nederhoff, age 51 (1844) and lived in Eden, Sac, IA. Bert Nederhoff, age 23 (May 1872) and lived in Eden, Sac, IA. [my note - known as son of Thomas and Katie] Jossie Nederhoff, age 21 (May 1878) and lived in Eden, Sac, IA. [my note - known as Josephine, daughter of Thomas and Katie] Hiike Nederhoff, age 15 (1880) and lived in Eden, Sac, IA [my note - appeared to be daughter of George & Elizabeth Nederhoff] Harry Nederhoff, age 13 (1882) and lived in Eden, Sac, IA [my note - known as son of Thomas and Katie] John Nederhoff, age 7 (1888) and lived in Eden, Sac, IA. [my note - same John who claimed to be born in 16 Oct 1885?; was it 16 Oct 1887/8?] Based on Iowa Marriage Records: Grace Lee Nederhoff (Yzark & Kath Freds) was married to Ayro Frank Prentice on 27 May 1893 in Early, Sac, IA. Josephine Nederhoff was married to Roy Jackson Omans on 8 Jan 1903 in Sac Co., IA Jennie Nederhoff was married to Henry Zimmerman on 3 Mar 1892 in Eden, Sac Co., IA It appears that there is incorrect information on Grace & Josie at FindAGrave for Charles Nederhoff? It seems that Thomas and Charles are brothers. Also I notice that Jennie / Grace Lee / Josephine s father's name was Yzark or Tjark based on Iowa Marriage Records. Is the father the same Thomas? _____________________________________________________ Correspond with Mr. Todd Copeland follows: From: copet@sasktel.net [mailto:copet@sasktel.net] Sent: Friday, February 24, 2017 1:29 PM To: Don Ames <dames@cox.net> Subject: RE: FW: Nederhoff (Thomas & Katherine) Hi Don I have seen that memorial and I questioned the person who posted it. She indicated that it was a submitted by a family member and I think they got the correct story to the wrong Nederhoff. Thomas and Katherine are buried in Iowa at the Nemaha Cemetery as is Charles. Hilke appears in a census in the Thomas and Katherine family. I have since offered a similar memorial to Thomas that was written by Minnie for the Rouleau history book. I have found no proof that Charles and Thomas were brothers, although is seems likely that they were. I have also seen the name Tjark and such and not sure what to make of it other than a communication problem between Thomas and the record taker. I don't know how well Thomas spoke English in those early days or if they had German names and how long they used them before converting to more English names.. I have found the family in another census listed as Nederbook. It is very hard to trace a family back when the name is always changing. I have found the name spelt Neiderhoff in Germany but have not been able to locate our line there yet. In 1 of the census I found the information that there were 10 children with 9 living. Minnie's story also says that there were 5 daughters married in Iowa. I have Annie, Unknown(died), Jennie, Bert, Grace, Josie, Hilke, Harry, John, and Milton. This list of children fits both stories. Hilke I just found while investigating my DNA match. The story attaching Hilke to Charles actually provides proof that she was really Thomas's daughter as does the Iowa census. All this information was written by Minnie around 1970 for the 1970 Rouleau homecoming history book. It would be 100 % correct that Thomas is our Nederhoff ancestor. The only person that she doesn't mention is Hilke, (it is possible that she never met her),but she does reference her as the 5th daughter to get married in Iowa. The census provides proof that Hilke did belong in the Thomas Nederhoff family. The picture of the Nederhoff men are L to R: Orville, Bert, John, Milo The picture of the Nederhoff family L to R: John, Milo, Orville, Mira(Les Clarke), Norma(Jack Clarke), Marjorie(George Krauss), Eleanor(Lloyd Clarke) The link to Thomas, Katherine and Harry's grave is below. The memorial I have submitted was written by Minnie if You are interested in reading it. <https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=nederhoff&GSiman=1&GScid=95571&GRid=109385862&> Todd -- 24 Feb 2017 ____________________________________________________ Hi Don Here is a link to Hilke's grave site with a written memorial: <https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Haarup&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSst=14&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=152774224&df=all&> Iowa 1895 census showing Hilke with family (Tark Nederhoff) <https://familysearch.org/search/collection/results?count=20&query=%2Bgivenname%3Ahilka~%20%2Bsurname%3Anederhoff~&collection_id=1803957> Thomas Nederbook in the 1900 US Federal Census: <http://search.ancestry.ca/cgi-bin/sse.dll?_phsrc=hDb186&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true&gss=angs-c&new=1&rank=1&msT=1&gsln=nederbook&gsln_x=0&cp=0&MSAV=1&uidh=lv6&pcat=35&h=16036747&dbid=7602&indiv=1&ml_rpos=2> Hilke's marriage record, lists C and Elizabeth Nederhoff as her parrents. (bottom of page) 1st time seeing this record. Very interesting. <http://interactive.ancestry.ca/8823/42563_fp030872_0115-00178?pid=903451875&backurl=http://search.ancestry.ca/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv%3D1%26db%3DIAMarriageRec%26h%3D903451875%26tid%3D%26pid%3D%26usePUB%3Dtrue%26_phsrc%3DhDb190%26_phstart%3DsuccessSource%26usePUBJs%3Dtrue%26rhSource%3D60284&treeid=&personid=&hintid=&usePUB=true&_phsrc=hDb190&_phstart=successSource&usePUBJs=true> There are 2 possibilities here, Hilke is the daughter of Charles and came to Iowa with Thomas and family only to reunite with Charles family after 1895 or Hilke is the daughter of Thomas and due to unknown circumstances left home in her late teens and ended up living with the Charles Nederhoff family. It is obvious that she considered Thomas's other daughters as siblings but the father listed on the wedding certificate says Charles is the father. I think Charles and Thomas are definately related. I still think that Hilke is the daughter of Thomas. I have also found some German records at Ancestry that include Tjark Betten Nederhoff and Geebke Dirks Nederhoff with the birth of several children. Birthdate of Tjark and their marriage are almost identical to the records I have for Thomas and Katherine. I will get back to You with any info I can find on this. I hope all these links work, very interesting puzzle Todd -- 24 Feb 2017 __________________________________________________________________________ Confusing...
