Note: a, N.Y. Married James Carlton in Muskegon, Mich. Apr 5, 1881 age 16 yrs 11 mos. Daughters of Winfred and James Carlton: Alice Blanche born Jan 22; Edna Maria born Jan 2. Winfred divorced James Carlton and married in Wankeg, Illinois, Jun 18, 1893 to Josepth C. Sheeley; the two girls taking the step fathers name of Shelley. As a girl Winfred attended a seminary at Kalamazoo, Michigan. Left with two small babies to care for she struggled through years of hardship, her parents both dying when she was very young. She has been a member of one of the largest womens' clubes in Chicago, the Arche Club, for twenty eight years and is a "Daughter of The American Revolution". To become a member of the organization she used the war record of Stephen Otis an ancestor mentioned in the Otis Geneology in this book. Edna Maria daughter of Winfred and sister of Blanche, married Alfred E. Janssen from Milwaukee, Wisc at the age of nineteen. Sons of Edna and Alfred: Allen born Sept 12, 1907; Winfred born Aug 18, 1912.
