She was born 1798 in MA and died February 22, 1851 Holland, Erie, NY. The only proof I have for her date of death if that it is mentioned in a book. His son Sylvester Curtis (1813-1887) and his wife Betsey Sherwin Curtis (1821-1906) are buried near him. John was married to Salley N. Colby Dake between 1851-1852 per the First Baptist Church of Holland, NY. The area split off from Montgomery County was much larger than the present county, as it included the present Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans, Steuben, Wyoming, Yates, and part of Schuyler and Wayne counties. Formation Otsego County was one of three counties split off from Montgomery (the other two being Herkimer and Tioga). Otsego County was officially established on February 16, 1791, with Cooperstown as its county seat, although at the time the village of Cherry Valley was much larger. The original county consisted of three large townships: Cherry Valley in the northeast, Otsego in the northwest, and Harpersfield in the south. _______________________________________________________________________
