A summary of his life stated: In Daniel J. Allens early life he was a farmer and taught school winters. He felt a call to preach he was a Baptist but did not follow the call til later in life when living in Elmira, NY. Then he was asked to do some evangelistic work by the Rev. Henry, a famous preacher of the Baptist denomination, and followed that by preaching. He preached at Howard, NY for fifteen years. They thought enough of him so that years after he left, in repairing the church, put in a window in his memory. He is still living, but has recently given up preaching.

Thursday, March, 1928. Millport. Rev. Daniel J. Allen - A Good Man, A Faithful Worker, Passed to His Reward March 7th, Aged 91 Years.
Rev. Daniel J. Allen departed this live March 7th, having reached the advanced age of 91 years of active life.
Born in 1836, on the Allen homstead near Smithfield, Pa. he devoted the early years of his life to agriculture, staying on the home acres until the death of his parents freed him from filial duty. He had married his boyhood's playmate, Miss Ruth Buck, also of Smithfield and three children had been born to them. Selling the farm he moved to Watkins Glen and engaged in the feed and produce business, fifty years ago he sold this business and moving to a farm near Sullivanville he again took up farming. The call to preach the gospel pursued him all these years and finally he entered the ministry of the Baptist church. Among the charges he has served are Hunt, N.Y., Howard in Steuben county, Virgil, near Cortland and South Hannibal, N.Y. where he closed a ten-year pastorate in 1926 when he was nearing the ninetieth anniversary of his birth.
After fifty years of happily married life, Mrs. Allen died and the husband was obliged to give up the labors of the ministry but after three years he again entered the active service and was assigned the work in the Baptist church in Virgil. Here in 1913 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Emma J. Holton who survives him. They moved to the Baptist parsonage at South Hannibal, N.Y. in 1916 and cared for the work there until June 1926, when advancing age made it necessary for Mr. Allen to give up the active work of the ministry and they moved to Millport and established a home in part of the house owned by their daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Starr.
In the year and a half they have lived here they have been "in labors abundant", "feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, visiting the sick". Mr. Allen possessed a fine tenor voice and added much to the musical program of the Baptist church here and assisted the pastors of both the Baptist and Methodist churches in many ways.
Sunday, Feb. 26, Mr. Allen was prostrated by a heart seizure, but recovered sufficiently to be about the house. However realizing that the end of life was near he calmly made all arrangements for the funeral services and attended to such business matters as would relieve Mrs. Allen who is not strong all possible care. During the night of Mar. 2nd he suffered a paralytic shock and while seeming to recognize his friends he was unable to speak and passed away Wednesday Mar. 7th.
Because of repair work in progress at the Baptist church the funeral was held in the Methodist church with Rev. Earl Pettengill and Rev. R. O. Norris in charge, both young men who gratefully acknowledged Mr. Allen's kind helpfulness to them in their work. His springtly step and kindly greetings will be missed by many in Millport. A christian testimony he loved to give was "I have only touched the hem of His garment". He was laid to rest in the Maple Grove cemetery near Sullivanville. His widow, a devoted daughter, Mrs. Chas. Starr of Millport and two sons, Stanley of Elmira, and Frederick of England mourn their loss but rejoice in his gain -- "For he was a good man full of the Holy Ghost and faith".
