a. Continued:   He served with Ferguson's Guernsey Guards, listed with those from Center Township (pg258) Wolfe's History of Guernsey Co. List of Battles include: Shiloh, Bolivar, Raymond, Champion Hills, Vicksburg, Canton, Kenesaw Mountain, Atlanta, Lovejoy Station and Bentonville where brother Milton lost his right arm. James was killed while with the 78th O.V.I., Company "H" in Atlanta. He is listed on the side of his father's tombstone in Lebanon Cemetery, Adams Twp., Guernsey Co., Ohio.
b. Continued:   His grave registration card stated date of death July 22, 1864, it also has date of burial July 22, 1864 ??? He was killed in Atlanta, Ga---How could this be true?? Other information has him listed as buried in Marietta, Ga.
c. Note:   age 7
d. Continued:   1860=age 15, listed as day laborer
