Notes
a. Continued:   His family owned a large estate named Les Duvaux on the Isle of Guernsey which was built in 1604 and partially rebuilt in 1798. He migrated to Guernsey Co., Ohio in 1808 after having shot a Russian Soldier who was stealing apples from the estate. He went to Jersey (an island near Guernsey) then to France where he took passage to America. In 1840 He owned property in Cambridge Township, just north of present Northwood Cemetery. 160 acres in Sec 8. There he built a house of stone instead of logs like those of the other settlers to remind him of his earlier home. Thomas attended the University of England as a young man so was well educated, He gave much time and effort to interests concerning churches and schools. Thomas and wife Rachel Marquand Ogier had eight children. All except 3 were deceased before 1882, Mary, Elizabeth, and John.
