Notes
a. Note:   Obediah and Lucy witnessed William Echols Will on 7 Nov 1788 in Halifax Co., VA.
William may have been Mary (Echols) Spradling's brother. Mary was James "Jack" Spradling's wife. William Echols, here, married Susanna (Sneed) Spradlin(g) after Joseph Edgar died in Sep 1767. She and William had three sons and four daughters and lived in Halifax Co., VA. Information about William Echols who married a widow Spradlin is from the Short History of Our Family by Milner Echols, 14 Jun 1850. See this information on William Echols, b. Abt 1729, VA in this family tree. Also, see his Will where he mentions his last wife, Susanna and their children. Obediah, here, was a witness to William Echols will executed in Halifax Co., VA 7 November 1788.

Since Obediah was living in Montgomery Co., KY in 1800 and in Wilson Co., TN in 1803, it's unlikely that he was ever in North Carolina. He died in Wilson Co., TN in 1823.
Obediah's daughters Elizabeth and Susannah's birthstates were listed as Kentucky in their records. They were born between 1790 and 1800. The other children were born in either Kentucky or Tennessee.
The Obediah in North Carolina was probably Obediah, b. Bet. 1760-1770, likely the son of Revolutionary Soldiier John Spradling, and father of James, Richard B., and Obediah, Jr who were all born in North Carolina. All three of these son's descendants matched each other exactly on a DNA test on the Spradlin(g)/Spradley DNA Project on FamilyTreeDNA.
