Note: Not proven to be the son of Jonathan 'John' and Mary (Womack) Spradling, but circumstantial evidence supports this fact. In Mary (Womack) Spradling's uncle William Womack's disputed will it stated that in 1803 their children and grandchildren were living in Franklin Co., GA and parts west of there. It appears that David, here, moved from Burke Co., NC, where probable brother, Oliver Spradling, lived, the proven son of Jonathan 'John' and Mary Spradling, to Franklin Co., GA where he is listed in the 1806 Franklin Co., GA Tax List, then moved to Lincoln Co., TN where was listed in a 1816 Land Record. His son John's wife, Amy Nichols was named in her grandfather's will in Lincoln Co. TN. Some of his grandchildren were married in Lincoln Co., TN. He then moved to Lawrence Co., AL where he was listed in the 1820 Alabama State Census Records. John's wife, Amy (Nichols) Spradley's younger sister Mahala (Nichols) Gray was born and married in Lawrence Co., AL. (Oliver, a Revolutionary War Soldier, died in Franklin Co., GA around 1805.) David, here, named his first daughter, Mary, and probably his first son, John. They were probably named for his mother and father. Witnessed a deed in Burke Co. NC in 1778. Apr 1778 Burke Co., NC, Burke Co., NC Land Records 50 acres N. Fork Little River adjoining old survey(?). Witn: Adam Fullington & David Spradling Tax 1784 in Burke Co., NC. Possible marriage record Source: Georgia Genealogical Magazine, No. 70 Name: David Spradling Spouse: Susannah Marriage Date: 1784 South Carolina [His mother, Mary (Womack) Spradling, died in SC sometime before 1803.] (Note: Not proven to be this David and even though it is a legitimate record.) Several family trees have David Spradling, grandson of Charles II Spradling, married to Susannah Parker in 1784. He was born 1771 so it could not have been him. He and Susannah were actually married about 1820 in Warren Co., TN. His first wife was Telitha Thompson, who he married 1792 in Wilkes Co., NC. She reportedly committed suicide while the rest of the family was at church. Their marriage is a legitimate Wilkes Co., NC record. Tax 1796 in Burke Co., NC Tax 1798 in Burke Co., NC May have been the David Spradling, below; 13 June 1803 -- Wilkes Co, NC Land and Property Deeds, Pt. 5 Bk. Agnes' husband Aaron Smith was a witness to David and Telitha's marriage.) Tax 1806 Franklin Co., GA. Probably the David Spradling listed in the North Carolina and Tennessee Land Records 1753-1931: Name: David Spradling, Record Date: 3 Jun 1816 in Lincoln Co., TN, Warrant # 9321. Lincoln Co., TN is just across the line from Lawrence Co., AL. Probably the David Spradling listed in the 1820 Lawrence Co. AL State Census, 1 male over 21, 3 males under 21, and 1 female over 21, 6 females under 21. According to Sydney Spradley in her Civil War Application based upon her husband, Hubbard Taylor's service, they lived about 12 miles from Huntsville, Madison Co., AL in nearby Lawrence Co., AL, that she had 3 brothers and 6 sisters, and after her marriage in 1834 she and husband moved to Illinois and never saw any of her siblings again. She said one of her brothers was named William. She lived in Jasper Co., MO when she applied for the pension above. She stated that her surname was Spradley. (See her information in her notes for more details.) Probable son, John Spradley, had a descendant who took a DNA test on FamilyTreeDNA. He closely matched several descendants of Charles S. and Agnes Spradling.
