Notes
a. Note:   According to George Kenneth Spradling, descendant of John Spradling, b. 1776, VA, John's father was William Spradling, b. Abt. 1750, Amelia Co., VA. Jonathan and Mary (Womack) Spradling were married in Amelia Co., VA in about 1747 and lived there until they moved to Halifax Co., VA in about 1753. George Kenneth has done a great deal of research over the years on his family. George's ancestor, John, named his first son William. (Below is one of his records)
William Spradling, Sr. in North Carolina in 1776 with wife, Sarah, married about 1774 in NC and died age 43 in 1798. William Jr. Jefferson Co., Alabama - Born1776 in NC and died 1858 Alabama. Also a 'David' 1830 & 1840 AL Census, Jefferson Co. Source: 'Hoyle & Related Families' Eldridge Turner at library of Albermarle Co., Historical Society, Charlottesville, VA. (Note: This is from George Kenneth Spradling, above. Some of the dates appear to be off of other known records, but are close. William Jr., as a witness on Charles Holt's Revolutionary Pension Application in 1854, stated that he was 84 years old. This would make his birthdate 1770. William Jr. stated that when he was 16 years old he lived near Charles Holt in Franklin County, North Carolina. The David above was probably William Jr.'s son, David, b. 1805 who was listed in the 1830 Jefferson Co., AL Census.) (Note: There was another William Spradling who allegedly died 1776 in Pittsylvania Co., VA who named James and John Spradling in his will.)
3 Sep 1782 Morgan Dist., Burke Co, NC; Burke Co. Land Records 1751-1809 & Misc. Records Vol. 4 p50; NC State Archives
William Wofford & Lucia Spradling. Lucia Spradling, spinster, and William Wofford, arrested for fornication and adultery. Evidence to support charge. John Spradling, Wm. Johnson and Thos. Wommack gave evidence. Presentment to Grand Jury. State vs. defendants above, returned to Mar 1783 term. Bail paid by Wm. Spradling, Joseph Dobson CSC. (Note: Thomas Womack, above was Mary (Womack) Spradling's half-brother. Lucia was probably her daughter, and John and William were her sons. Lucia and William Wofford later married and moved to Franklin Co., GA where Mary's uncle William Womack's disputed will stated her children and grandchildren lived in 1803.
