Note: Harry J. Savoy shows in his book that Newville m. Margaret Strutzel. Family members state that Homer moved up north to Illinois. ---------------------------------------------- Comments from Carroll Paul Savoie Sept. 2005 email excerpt According to Mama, Uncle Homer's first wife spent many years in a mental institution and apparently died there. The 1930 U. S. Census, Winnebago County, Rockford City, IL had Homer N. Savoy living as a boarder at 723 Park Ave, Rockford, IL. The head and owner of house ($8,500 value) was Anne Montgomery, a 68 year old widow who was born in Scotland, but had been in the U. S. since 1866. Homer was 42, married, and had been for 26 years. Census indicates he was from Louisiana but his mother and father from France. He is proprietor of a barber shop and is a veteran of the world war. If you do the math, years married and having gone to war do not check out. This means he was 17 or 18 when he and Ethel were married. I don't know when Ethel died and I don't know when he married Margaret. The 1940 census might show him married. We'll have to wait until 2012 for that! Erna visited Uncle Homer and Aunt Margaret in July 1953 when they lived at 500 Grant Ave, in Rockford. He died around Christmas that year. I met Uncle Homer when he came down for Papa's funeral in March 1950. I cannot remember whether it was that trip or not, but I also met Aunt Margaret. I remember vividly her visiting us at home because I was amazed at her accent - a typical mid-western accent - very articulate. ----------------------------------------------- More info provided by Carroll Paul Savoie Oct 2, 2005 email excerpt .........A check of WWI registration records shows Homer Newell Savoy, age 29, home address, Brookshire Texas.
