A. Savoie Honored with Legion Award A signal honor was conferred upon Mr. P. A. Savoie of Bayou Blue, merchant and commander of Lenox Hotard Post. No. 31 of the American Legion. at. the district meeting of post and departmental officers of the American Legion field at Alexandria Saturday and Sunday Feb. 5 and 6, Mr. Savoie was presented with a certificate of distinguished service from the Legion headquarters at Indianopolis. Builds Membership During Mr. Savoie's term as Commander of the local American Legion post he has succeeded in increasing the paid membership. He has also been instrumental in several other ways. In promoting good causes in the community by means of the American Legion. Mr. L. H. Baulard accompanied Mr. Savoie to the conference which both enjoyed immensely. Several issues of paramount importance were discussed such as child welfare, federal legislation for the prevention of crime. Among the distinguished speakers of the convention was Bishop Daniel Desmond of Alexandris. Has Reunion Incidentally, Mr. Savoie met one of his old buddies whom he had not seen for nineteen years. This friend, Mr. C. M. Stokes of Calcasieu invited Mr. Savoie for a brief visit to Mr. Stokes home, an offer which Mr. Savoie gladly accepted. After the convention adjourned, the two world war buddies enjoyed a tete-a-tete at Mr. Stokes attractive county home. *********** Houma, Terrebonne Parish, LA The Courier May 25, 1962 Friday Peter Savoie Expires at 71; Requiem Today Death came to Peter A. Savoie, 71, May 23 at 12:31 pm. His demise occured at Terrebonne General following an illness of several months. Requiem High Mass will be sung, May 25, at 9 am at St. Louis Church cemetery. Mr. Savoie was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Theophile Savoie, pioneer residents of Bayou Blue. He was united in marriage on May 4, 1918 to Miss Jennie Marcel, also of Bayou Blue, who survives him. Other survivors are: one son, Dr. Isaac Savoie of Houma; two daughters, Mrs. Gene Illum and Mrs Albert Clodio both of Los Angeles, California; two brothers, Ursin Savoie, Bayou Blue and Cyprien Savoie of Houma; three sisters, Mrs. Argus Chauvin, Miss Azelie Savoie, both of Byou Blue, and Miss Laura Savoie of New Orleans. Six grandchildren survive. The deceased was a lifelong resident of Lafourche on Bayou Blue. He founded the P. A. Savoie General Merchandise Store in 1914 which he operated until 1945. He then went into the cattle business in which he was active until health failed him. Savoie was Post Commander of Lenox-Hotard Post 31, American Legion. He was a veteran of WWl and participated in the Battle of Chateau-Thierry. He was well known, well-liked, his death is of great loss to the community. First National is in charge of the arrangements. Military services will be held at the grave.
