Note: from family member Linda G., sent via email July 2008 about Azema Ozema Gros was my mother's grandmother on her mother's side. My mom tells so many stories about her that are funny and interesting. She was a midwife, a doctor of sorts. She rowed her pirogue up and down the bayou and delivered babies. She also treated sick people with herbal remedies, natural medications. My mom believes she learned the use of the plants and other substances from the Indians. My mom, not long ago, would still point out to me plants her grandmother use to treat people. She suffered a broken back and was badly bent over but was thought to be a tall person. Perhaps Ozema had osteoperosis........................ ____________________________ 1870 United States Federal Census Home in 1870: Ward 9, Assumption, Louisiana Post Office: Napoleonville Household Members: Name Age Jean Bapte Greaux 56 Irene Greaux 40 Theodule Greaux 16 Asima Greaux 15 (Azema) Indith Greaux 6/12 (Judith) Azema Gros and Alfred Boudreaux had a daughter together, Judith Boudreaux.
