During the unnamed hurricane of 1926, Yousa is credited with saving the life of his half brother, Freddie. In a conversation with Ruby Savoie Daigle, she said she remembered Yousa who was first cousin to her husband, Edley. She recalled hearing stories of Yousa and the storm. Ruby said that Yousa had scars on his face and that it was told to Yousa by his doctor that the high winds and salt water caused the scars. She said the story she recalled about the storm and Yousa is that he clung to a floating door to stay alive. No doubt this story will vary from one person to another.
There are newspaper accounts of Yousa's heroic efforts in the Times Picayune (New Orleans), persumably not long after the storm of 1926.
