Note: Denis J. Robichaux, 95, a native and resident of Raceland, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until funeral time Monday, Dec. 29, at St. Mary's Nativity Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his daughters, Regina and Holly Robichaux; brother, Albert Robichaux; and sisters, Alice Borne and Marguerite Guidry. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne Lauve Robichaux; parents, Louis Robichaux and Clothilde Mayet Robichaux; brother, Abby Robichaux; and sisters, Celina Theriot, Therese Sampey, Mary Jane Baudoin and Linda Babin. Denis attended Breaux Folse School and was a graduate of Raceland High School, class of 1936. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the 39th Infantry, 9th Division. During his service he achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was the past commander of the VFW Post No. 3665 in Raceland from 1946 to 1948 and an honorary member of the American Legion. He was the Raceland Volunteer Fire Department President from 1968 to 1970 and retired as postmaster after 30 years with the Raceland branch.
