a. Note:   According to Bernard Hartley Fenton (bro of Florence Clara), he amassed quite a bit of capital in his lifetime. At Wedding he was listed as being of the Parish of Thorp Arch in county of York, but also listed elsewhere as being born in Ulverston, Westmoreland. Witnesses at wedding were Mark Mayson (husb of Elizabeth Green) and Jane Green (sister of Sarah) 1847 - At time of BH's wedding he was listed as an actuary (registrar, shorthand write] In heraldry book: Wm Fenton, Esq. of Underbank Hall, Yorks, " out of a ducal coronet, a fleur-de=lis, ppr.Pl 47 cr7. (Pic. coronet pl128, fig 3) ("Fairbairn's Crests of the Families of Gr. Brit. & Ireland". James Fairbairn ISBN 1-85079-063-9, 2nd printing 1988).   Info from B.H. Fenton (bro. of Florence Clara): Coat of arms on Wm Fenton's wall and did acquire a copy from the Heraldry office before 1899. "PER ARDUA SURGO" (all difficulties i surmount). Words on his copy: "The arms borne by the family of Fenton of Crake in the County of YORK. Also they provided some- thing which said "the earliest trace" they had of it was sir Joshua Fenton, Lord Chief Justice of England in 1586 (BH not certain of date).
