  Margaret divorced Eli after he left she and their children in their dugout without food for two weeks. Likely the reason she and the children appear in the 1880 census with with his parents. She could not make enough to support the children. John William remained with his paternal grandparents. Roxena was given to the Martin M & Hulda (DAVIS) THOMPSON family to raise as if she was their own. When "Roxena" returned to the family, she told stories that lead them to believe she was treated harshly as a servant. Margaret kept Pearl.
