Notes
a. Note:   Estelle attended the Bloomingdale Academy for teacher where she was one of approximately 40 students. She taught at schools #5, #6. and #10 in Parke County. At the Jackson Township School in Lena, she had 63 pupils. She recalled that at one school it was necessary for her to cross a stream toreach the school. On one occasion, after a day of rail, the stream was quite high, and she had some misgivings about trying to cross in in the buggy. However, she had a fine long-legged horse named Frank who swam across taking Estelle and the buggy with him. The only casualties were a dinner pail and other materials which floated away from the floor of the buggy. Estelle's husband, Daulton Martin, was Road Superintendent of Parke County, owned and operated an automobile agency (Pontiac and Oakland) and drove a school bus for 20 years. The family also owned and operated a farm.
From a letter to Harry J. DeVoto from Lois Myers:
Aunt Stella celebrated her 93rd birthday on February 11, and is still going strong. We spent the afternoon with her. She still lives alone and does her own cleaning, cooking, etc.
LIved most of her life in Rockville, IN.
