Note: FUNERAL HELD FOR JUDGE VIRGIL BROWN As Early Citizen He Was First To Be Elected to Office in Kay County Funeral services were held for Judge Virgil Brown from the Presbyterian church at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon. many attended the services held in last repsect to this poneer of Newkirk and Kay county. Burial for the aged judge was in Newkirk cemetary, the Newkirk Masonic chapter conducting services at the cemetery. Judge Brown was the first county judge to be elected in Kay county. Prior to his term in office, all probate or county judges were selected by appointment. He came to this vicinity at the time of the opening of the Strip and has lived here since that time except for the last few years during which time he was in ill health. Judge Brown died at the Central State Hospital at Norman at 7:30 o'clock Thursday of last week. He was 77 years old and death was caused from old age. Surviros are his wife, two sons, Jamces C. Brown of Detroit, Mich., and Courtney Brown of Battle Creek, Mich., and two daughters, Miss Gertrude L. Brown of Chicogo, IL, and Mrs. Norman B. Simmons of Lansing, Mich. Pall bearers were P. W. Smith, J. H. Coleman, william Mitchell, J. F. King, E. B. Wood and Dr. E. A. Hodges. A quartet, composed of H. S. burke, Mrs F. S. Midgley, H. M. Colville, and Mrs. Fred Groshong, sang "Lead Kindly Light," "It Is Well With My Soul," and "One Sweetly Solemn Thought." Rev. S. H. Maxwell presided.
