Mr Mulvane, a resident of the county since 1905, moved here after residing many years at Amboy. It was while he lived there that he served on the Board of Supervisors. He is credited with having initiated the first stretch of pavement ever laid on the Mojave Desert. By using his district road funds, Mr Mulvane had an oiled macadam paving laid from Amboy to Needles. This paved stretch of the National Old Trails Highway, now Highway 66, received nationwide attention at the time. While in Amboy he was manager of a large stucco manufacturing plant in Bristrol Dry Lake. Later he served as a deputy sheriff and Superior Court bailiff until his retirement.
