a. Note:   GALLANT SOLDIER AND SPLENDID CITIZEN
 Capt. O. C. Powelson, who had been ill with paralysis since January 21, died at his home in this city on last thrusday night-funeral on Sunday afternoon.
 New Philadelphia, Ohio, Newspaper. Military History
 Enlisted as a private in Campany F, 16th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (three months' service); corporal, May 2, 1861; mustered out on expiration of term of service, August, 1861; private, Company B, 80th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, December 3, 1861; 1st Sergeant, December 25, 1862; promoted to 2d LT, September 8, 1862; 1st Lt, October 4, 1862; Captain , September 8, 1864; mustered out September 25, 1865.
 Participated in the following engagements: Campaign in Virginia, siege of Corinth, Farmington, Miss; Vicksburg Campaign, Champion Hills, siege of Vicksburrg, Mission Ridge, Atlanta Campaign, Resaca, Ga, March to the Sea, from Atlanta to Savannah, GA; capture of Savannah, campaign of the Carolinas, battle of Bentonville, NC; Grand Review, Washington, D. C., May 24, 1865.

 Unidentified newspaper clipping . . . [He] served on General John A. Logan's staff. Capt. Powleson carried messages from Gen. Sherman's headquarters to the headquarters of Gen. Grant and the latter always addressed him affectionately as "My boy."
 Capt. Powleson was one of the most distinguished soldiers in Tuscarawas county. He was twice wounded, once severely, and laid on the battle field from 10 o'clock in the morning until 4 o'clock in the afternoon, when he was discovered by stretcher-bearers and removed to a temporary hospital.
 Capt. Powleson was also a splendid citizen, a man whose character was without a blemish, honorable and upright and a gentleman under all circumstances. He was a man of remarkable courage and undaunted determination, yet kind, gentle, tender and refined in his demeanor.
 . . . soon after returning home at the close of the war, Capt. Powleson took up his residence in Newcomerstown, where he was engaged in the hardware business for two years. The he removed to Topeka, KS, where he engaged in the same business for three years.
 [He] returned to Newcomerstown and on June 2, 1870, he and Miss Rebecca Ann Mulvane, a member of one of the most prominent families in that village, were united in marriage.
 . . . Capt. Powleson returned to New Philadelphia 30 years ago, and had resided here ever since. For a number of years he was engaged in the insurance business and real estate business, but in recent years he had lived a retired life.

  My ancestor was Richard Powleson (m. Celinda Neighbor) and I have been going though hundreds of family letters (19th century), amongst which are some from Clark. Also have photographs of him. Would love to have more information on Clark and his siblings.
