Note:   (Research):From the book «i»Soules in Richland, New York (p. 859) - «/i»I am in possession of copies of pages 859-862 MLD 12-29-09:
Caleb Soule (1), son of David (1) and Olive (Wallen) Soule, was born somewhere in Rhode Island as early as 1785*, and his mother found a home with him long after his father's death. She had only two children. She died in 1863. He (David) died in 1851. Caleb Soule was involved in the Mohawk War and Massacre when but 19 years of age** and was so badly wounded that he was left for dead upon the field. He was a very stalwart young mand and held off five Indians for some time, but the chief, seeing his braves getting the worst of teh fray, crushed his head with his tomahawk. He remained unconcious, , but was revived and lived many years, always suffering from his wound, and was a soldier in the Mexican War*** in which he served as drum major; he was at the battle of Santa Anna. He returned from Mexico and finallly died from the effects of his wound, by a stoke of paralysis. He was buried at Amersterdam, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. Caleb Soule married Mary Rector, a daughter of John Rector, who was mortally wouldned during the same battle by the Mohawk Indians. His parents lived at Cicero Corners and afterwards went to Richland, NY., thence to Wisconsin. The children were born at "The Corners."
*could this date be his father's birthdate?
**No reference on the internet can be found to the Mohawk War and Massacre. If this reference is to the War of 1812, it could be the battle of Beaver Dam were Americans were massacred by Mohawks. This was June 2, 1813, making Caleb's birth year 1794, not 1808 as reported by another source, Richard Case (RDCJoss@aol.com).
***The Mexico War last from 1846-1848. There is no battle of Santa Anna, but he was defeated at the battle of San Jacinto in 1836.
Analysis of story: if his birth year is correct, he would have been too young to have fought in the War of 1812.
