a. Note:   Per Rose Sherry taped interview with Marlene Baker Meyer. Marriage to Sarah was second....first marriage was arranged but was not consummated since he did not want to be married to her and it was annulled by Rabbis.
 David had two brothers Ruben and Louis. Only two surviving out of 13 children.
 Rose Sherry says David Stein(her dad) and his brothers owned winery in Odessa.
  In US worked for 3.00/wk. Jack of all trades. Saved and brought Sarah over they opened a little store.
  Work: pushcart with supplies; later owned small shop and they lived upstairs from the store. Huckster.
 Later painter and paper hanger.
 Moved to Akron from Pgh. Fell off roof could not paint anymore . Bought a Crowel car drove Akron to Cleveland for 1.00 a trip. Hit by streetcar, very crippled.
  Used to go to arena and pack stuff for Uncle Ben who paid them.
  If he knew of family that didn't have enough for Shabbat and would collect from friends and get basket of food ring doorbell and run away.
  When they lived on Whiley Ave, when first came from Akron. Women married to deaf man and Charles Linder put them out of apt., when Al was in hospital a lady
 comes to visit husband told (Al) him when they were put out of home man across the street collected money and helped her to open store. (David Stein)
  One Friday he gets all cleaned up and dressed and goes to shull. When he comes home jacket closed all the way up....Sarah says "open your jacket" he does not have a shirt....someone had to go somewhere and needed shirt so he gave it to him.
  Belonged to a lodge and make boxed lunches and sell to highest bidder and money went to the needy.
 Bought and orchard and new truck...Rose gave him deposit....350.00....partnered with a Mr. Yarcherber and ran man down. David would not ride in the truck anymore. Gave the truck back.
  Not a demonstrative person.
  Son Max looks a lot like him.
