Notes
a. Note:   Per Rose Sherry tape by Marlene Baker Meyer Sarah's marriage was arranged and she did not see David till their wedding day. Says Sarah and Manuel arrived between 1902 and 1903.
After death of Manuel moved from Phili to Pgh.
Moved back to Pgh after hubby feeling better. Mom says she has Rachel, Merril, and Shlomo in Pgh. Moved to Pgh when Bobie Rose was 12. David was 48 and Sarah was 38.
Bought a little store.... deli, ices, confectionary store on Long Avenue. David went to Mt. Clemens for 21 days for sulfa baths. Back totally straightened out.
Bought house on 5th avenue that had hardware store and went into hardware. Not lucrative so went into grocery same building.
1929-stock market crash-no business, chains began and could not compete. Could not make mortgage so moved to North Side.
Rose was paying mortgage from Zayde Al's salary was 25.00/wk. Paid
 40.00/month for 2 yrs.
Moved to Swissvale and all chipped in to open a store, no success. Then all pitched in to send to California.
During depression Sarah baked bread bread, took in borders, did laundry and cleaned and fed them.
Kids came home from school and all the kids helped out. Rose ironed etc.
They had a girl who worked for them (3.00/wk) and she adopted them as her family until she got married. When she had her baby she came to Sarah and said you are my mother and had her baby at their house.
  Per Sheldon Stein
 Lived on Wooster Street
 Made her own gefilte fish
Had a daughter who died as a baby due to busted bowels...Gloria.
 After this moved to California.
According to Sheldon (grandson) she had very long gray hair down to her waist. She would wash it and let it hang dry for a while and then put it up into a bun.
