A. L. Moore, secretary of the electoral board of Henry County, and Chaplin of Stuart-Hairston Camp Confederate Veterans of America, passed away at his home in Martinsville, Monday, May 3rd, 1920. He was past 74 years of age, having been born Sept. 11th, 1840. His birthplace was near Roxboro, N. C. (Person County), where he spent his boyhood and where he entered the service of the Confederate Army as a Volunteer at the age of sixteen. He was mustered into the 42nd N. C. Regiment and served three years, part of the time as a Prisoner of War. He was united in marriage to his surviving wife, formerly Georgia M. Coleman, in Sept. 1892. To this union was born six children, four of whom survive their father. They are G. A. Moore of Raleigh, N. C. and Mr. H. G. Moore, T. J. Moore and Inez Moore of this city. Children by a former marriage are Hassell G. Moore of Lynchburg, W. T. Moore of Birmingham, Ala. and C. W. Moore of Clay, Ky. Mr. Moore was a minister in the Primitive Baptist faith for 54 years. Pratt, 2017 Ruth Ellen Pratt (Phillip Isaac7, Thomas Henry6, William5, William4, John3, William2, Griffin1), seventh child of Phillip Isaac Pratt and Nancy Webb Harris, was born June 10, 1861, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. She married Rev. Alvis LaGrange Moore, son of David Remus Moore and Jane Lewis, February 23, 1882, in Leaksville, Rockingham County, North Carolina. He was born September 11, 1845, in Roxboro, Person County, North Carolina. Ruth was Alvis' second wife. Alvis volunteered for service in the Confederate Army in 1861 at the age of sixteen. He was mustered into Company E, 35th NC Infantry Regiment and served three years, part of the time as a prisoner of war. After his discharge he married, first, Corrinna Hawkins Wilkerson, daughter of Allen Wilkerson and Rebecca Ann Hampton, April 11, 1867, in Granville County, North Carolina. It is believed that Alvis divorced Corrinna and she later remarried. Alvis and Corrinna Wilkerson Pratt had two known children: Charles Worth m. Parilee Bedwell, and William T. Moore. Alvis was a Baptist Minister in Henry County, Virginia. Alvis then married Ruth Ellen Pratt, February 23, 1882, in Leaksville, Rockingham County, and they had one known child: Hassell Gann Moore m. Rosebud Cox. Ruth died June 2, 1891, in Rockingham County, and is buried in the Pratt Cemetery, Eden, Rockingham County, North Carolina (Find A Grave Memorial # 34823947). Following Ruth's death, Alvis married, third, Georgia Mae Coleman, daughter of Skelton Columbus Coleman and Elizabeth Margaret Wiggington, September 29, 1892, in Henry County, Virginia. Alvis and Georgia Coleman Moore had six known children: George Akers m. Nell Cora Lester, Beverly, Henry Grady m. Mary Hester Stone, Thomas Jefferson, and Maiza Inez Moore. Alvis served as a North Carolina State Senator 1890-1900. He was secretary of the Electoral Board in Henry County, Virginia, and Chaplin of the Stuart-Hairston Camp Confederate Veterans of America. Avis died May 31, 1920, at his home in Martinsville, Henry County, Virginia. Alvis and his third wife, Georgia Mae Coleman, are buried in the Oakwood Cemetery.
