Note: NI130 ------------------------------------------------------------ MEMORIAL ID«tab»191657500 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: "Following the Trails of the Southern Pratts", by F. P. Pratt, 2017 William J. Pratt (Thomas Henry6, William5, William4, John3, William2, Griffin1), first child of Thomas Henry Pratt and Frances Irion, was born November 18, 1821, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. He married Martha Jane England, daughter of James Englent, August 11, 1849, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. William was a farmer. On May 3, 1861, William enlisted in the CSA and served in Company I, 13th North Carolina Regiment. He was discharged August 1, 1862, for being too old to serve. He managed to re-enlist, fought at the battle of Appomattox, and was paroled May 18, 1865, at Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina, after the end of the Civil War. William applied for a pension in 1902 claiming that he was wounded in the leg at the Battle of Appomattox. Some researchers have William marring, second, a Nancy A. Cox, February 2, 1865, in Rockingham County, North Carolina. This would be inconsistent with his Civil War service, which did not end until a few months later, and that he is found in the 1900 US Census with his wife "Martha" and a few of their children. William and Martha England Pratt had many children, but, unfortunately, little is known about them or their descendants. Martha died October 15, 1904, in Rockingham County. William died a few months later, December 19, 1904, in Rockingham County. Both are buried in the Pratt Family Cemetery, Eden, Rockingham County, North Carolina, but there is no headstone.
